Do you recognise this?

  • You lie awake at night, and the word that keeps circling is "tearing. It doesn't help that the expat Facebook groups are full of it. Someone describes their stitches, another types "episiotomy," a third shares a story that makes your stomach drop — and there's no one nearby to put it in perspective. No mum, no sister, no midwife friend down the road to say "it wasn't like that for me." Just you, at midnight, clenching as you read, half wanting to know everything and half wanting to slam the laptop shut and pretend you never asked.

  • You're doing this far from home, and some days the loneliness hits hard. Your mum is a half day travel away. Your best friend can't pop round with biscuits and a hug. The people who'd normally carry you through something this big are all in another country. And when you picture actually going into labour, there's a quiet panic underneath it all: "Who is really going to be there for me? Who's in my corner when it matters most?"
  • The Spanish maternity system feels like a maze — and one that keeps steering you toward things you didn't ask for.Back home you'd have known roughly what to expect. Here, you're not sure what a matrona does versus an obstetra, whether you'll even meet the person who delivers your baby, or what a "plan de parto" is worth if no one reads it. And on top of the confusion, every appointment seems to add another intervention "just in case" — talk of inductions, monitors, drips, of being "allowed" to do things. You came in wanting a calm, gentle birth, and you walk out feeling like you've signed up for a medical procedure you don't fully understand.

  • You smile and nod in appointments — and then panic in the car park. Your Spanish is "ordering-a-coffee" good, not "discussing-foetal-monitoring-during-a-contraction" good. And the thought terrifies you: that in the most important moment of your life, you won't understand what's being said, or won't be able to say what you need. Being voiceless in that room — unable to ask, to refuse, to be understood — is the fear that keeps creeping back.

  • You know you want a natural, calm birth — you just have no idea how to actually make that happen here in Spain. You've read the books. You believe your body can do this. But "trust your body" feels like a lovely slogan that nobody has translated into real steps for giving birth in a Spanish hospital. How do you stay calm when the system runs a certain way? How do you hold your ground, in another language, in an unfamiliar system? You want a plan, not a mantra.

How would it be for you if...

…the word "tearing" no longer made you flinch?
Imagine understanding how your body opens for your baby — and having the breathing and positions to work with it. You scroll past the scary posts and think, calmly, "That's not the only way it can go."

…you didn't feel alone for a single moment of this? Picture a small group of women who get it, in your pocket the whole way — and a partner that is prepared to be your calm, capable advocate. Held and supported, even miles from home.

…the Spanish maternity system finally made sense — and worked for you, not on you? Imagine walking into every appointment knowing who's who, what your rights are, and which interventions are routine versus truly necessary — steady, informed, and back in the driving seat.

…the language barrier simply stopped being a barrier? Picture the key Spanish birth words at your fingertips, a birth plan that speaks for you when you'd rather breathe than talk, and a partner ready to step in. Calm and in control, even when the Spanish is flying around you.

…you had an actual, step-by-step way to birth naturally — in SpainNot a slogan — a toolkit. Your breath, your mind and your environment working together to keep you calm and in control, and a plan that fits the Spanish system. "Trust your body," finally backed up by real steps.

This is all possible when you book the HypnoBirthing group course.

This is your way to an amazing birth experience on your terms!

Video soon to come

This is what is included in the HypnoBirthing Group Course:

  • 5 live online sessions of 2.5 hours, once a week over 5 weeks, via GoTo Meeting — where I walk you through everything from the breathing techniques to how the Spanish maternity system actually works, all from the comfort of your own home, wherever you are in Spain.
  • The full HypnoBirthing Institute workbook — relaxation scripts, hands-on exercises, affirmations for both mother and father, natural pain-relief information, a birth partner guide, breathing techniques and more.
  • Downloadable relaxation audios, to practise your breathing and visualisations any time, day or night.
  • A goody bag of supportive products, posted to your door before the course begins — your tools ready and waiting.
  • The complete Birth Plan Pack — bilingual birth preference templates, the full numbered options list in Spanish and English, and a formal bilingual letter for your care provider. We go over it together in the course, and I answer your specific questions live, so you're clear on every choice.
  • The BRAINS decision-making tool — with the key questions translated into Spanish — so you can actually use it in the room, in the moment, with your Spanish care team.
  • My expat information handout — clear, myth-busting guides to the things that trip parents up in Spain: birth hormones and the oxytocin loop, your due date, waters breaking before labour, "big baby" warnings, vaginal exams, and understanding induction.
  • WhatsApp and email support from me — throughout the course and right up to 2 weeks after your baby arrives, so you're never left with a scary question and no one to ask.
  • Deliberately kept small — never more than 4 couples, so there's real time for your questions, your worries and your story. A proper live class, not a video you watch alone.
  • No travel. No parking. No "where's the venue?" stress. Just you, your partner, and a cup of tea on the sofa — preparing for birth in the very place you'll feel most relaxed.

After this 5 week program you will:

>> Understand your body so well that the fear of tearing loses its grip — with the breathing and positioning tools to support a gentle, gradual birth, and the perspective to let the scary stories go.

>> Feel genuinely supported, never alone — with a prepared partner who knows how to advocate for you, and a group of women who have your back.

>> Know the Spanish maternity system inside out — and how to stay in charge of it — confident about who does what, what to expect, which interventions are routine versus necessary, and how to keep your birth on your terms.

>> Have the language tools and birth plan you need to be understood and respected, even when your Spanish runs out.

>> Hold a clear, practical plan for a natural, calm birth that actually works in Spain — your trust in your body finally matched by real, usable steps.

Investment

€347,- per couple.

For five live, intimate sessions (never more than 4 couples), the full HypnoBirthing Institute workbook, downloadable relaxation audios, a goody bag posted to your door, the complete Birth Plan Pack, the BRAINS tool with the key questions translated into Spanish, my expat information handout, and WhatsApp + email support right up to 2 weeks after birth.

Put it next to the things you'll happily spend on for your baby — the pram, the cot, the tiny outfits they'll outgrow in weeks. This is an investment in how your baby comes into the world, and in how you remember that day for the rest of your life. That memory stays with you forever.

Why opt for the HypnoBirthing Group Course?

A small, personal group. Never more than 4 couples, so there's room for your questions, your worries and your story. You're a person here, not a number.

You won't be doing this alone. Over five weeks you'll sit alongside other expat parents facing the very things keeping you up at night. Hearing someone else voice your exact worry is powerful — you realise you're not "the only one," and you learn from each other every week.

Support that doesn't stop at the last session. You can reach me by WhatsApp and email throughout the course and right up to 2 weeks after birth — because so many of the real questions come after the sessions, when you're back in that appointment room or holding your newborn at 3am.

Truly interactive — even online. This is a live class. We practise the techniques together, talk things through in real time, and I answer your questions as they come up. Nothing like watching a pre-recorded video alone. And because you're at home, you practise your relaxation in the very environment where you'll be calming yourself throughout pregnancy.

Born-in-Spain knowledge, from someone who's lived it. This isn't generic hypnobirthing — it's birth preparation built specifically for expat parents navigating the Spanish system.

Who is the course for?

The course is for expat mothers-to-be and fathers-to-be or birth partners — anywhere in Spain.

This course isn't just for mothers preparing for birth, but also for fathers or birth partners, so that they too feel confident and prepared to support you — which matters all the more when you're birthing in a country, and often a language, that isn't your own.

Whether you're a first-time parent or have given birth before, HypnoBirthing can benefit anyone who wants to learn natural pain-management techniques, reduce anxiety around childbirth, and build a deeper connection with their birth partner. And because it's designed for expat parents in Spain, you'll gain the tools and know-how to navigate the Spanish birthing process — hospital or home — with ease, confidence and empowerment.

I'm planning a hospital birth — is HypnoBirthing for me?

Yes. HypnoBirthing is a very complete prenatal course that benefits all parents. It doesn't matter whether you're planning a hospital birth, a home birth, a water birth, a land birth, a birth with or without medical intervention, or even a caesarean — HypnoBirthing will benefit you. The course gives you evidence-based birth information so you can make healthy, informed decisions that best fit your family — and, because it's built for expats, decisions that fit the way birth actually works here in Spain.

Can I still benefit if I am planning on taking an epidural?

Absolutely. While HypnoBirthing classes are primarily focused on natural childbirth techniques and pain management without medication, there are still many reasons to take the course even if you're planning to use medication during labour.

The classes help reduce anxiety and give you valuable information and techniques that are beneficial regardless of your birth plan. Even though the course emphasises coping with pain without medication, you'll still gain real insight into relaxation, breathing techniques, and how to create a positive birthing environment , and staying calm and informed matters just as much when you're navigating a hospital birth in Spain. Ultimately, the decision depends on your own preferences and goals for childbirth, and the tools you learn here will serve you whichever path you take.

Is birth with HypnoBirthing painless?

It can be — although HypnoBirthing doesn't promise a painless birth. You'll still feel your body working for you. You'll be given techniques to facilitate your body's natural process, which can result in a painless birth. Some women (like me!) experience a partial or even painless birth; others experience some sensations that are generally tolerable.

There's no guarantee you'll have a painless birth. It takes your commitment to practising the exercises taught in class and getting comfortable with the hypnosis techniques — which is achievable for everyone with a little practice.

And bear in mind that how you look back on your birth depends on many things, not just the feeling of pain. A birth can be deeply positive and empowering even with some amount of pain — especially when you feel calm, informed and in control of what's happening around you.

What will HypnoBirthing bring me?

Typically, HypnoBirthing families approach their births fully prepared and feel satisfied with their birth experience. Although not every mother has a pain-free birth or the exact birth she planned. Even so, the birth-satisfaction rate among HypnoBirthing mothers is higher than among those who don't use it.

Mums tell me the course brought them:

  • Far less anxiety and fear around pregnancy and birth
  • The confidence to make their own informed choices — even when things didn't go to plan
  • A feeling of being strong and in control, so they look back on their birth positively
  • Shorter, more comfortable, easier labours, with less need for intervention or pain relief
  • A deep sense of empowerment and pride in their own strength and capability

And for expat parents, that calm sense of control is worth even more, it's exactly what carries you through an appointment or a decision in an unfamiliar system, in a language that isn't your first.

"Hypnosis" makes me skeptical — will it really work for me?

Completely understandable — the name throws a lot of people. HypnoBirthing has nothing to do with stage hypnosis or being "put under." You're fully awake, aware and in control the whole time. It's really just deep relaxation and focused breathing — the same calm, focused state you slip into when you're absorbed in a good book or a long drive. The name simply reflects that we use self-hypnosis techniques to help your body relax and let labour progress as it's designed to. You don't need to "believe" in anything for it to work — you just practise the techniques, and they do the work.

The hospital offers a free birth course — why not use that one?

Please do go along to the hospital course too — it's a great way to see the ward and meet the staff. But an independent course like this one does a very different job. Here's why parents choose to do both:

  • You'll learn a range of tools and options for natural pain relief that (in most cases) aren't offered or taught in the healthcare provider's or hospital's course.
  • Independent childbirth education isn't based on the policies of the hospital or healthcare provider — so nothing is left out because it doesn't suit their routine.
  • You'll know all your options for childbirth, not just what your particular hospital offers.
  • You'll watch birthing videos that inspire, rather than frighten.
  • You know exactly who your teacher is — a familiar, consistent face for all five weeks, not a rotating room of staff.
  • Birth partners are far more involved — they leave feeling genuinely prepared to support you.
  • You'll be fully informed to create your birth preferences — and, because this course is built for expats, you'll get those preferences numbered in Spanish and English, ready to hand to your Spanish care team.
  • It's in English, in a small group of no more than 4 couples — so you understand everything fully and there's real time for your questions.

Does an online course really work as well as in person?

Yes. For what we're doing, it often works better. HypnoBirthing is about learning to relax deeply and practise your breathing in the place you feel safest. That place is your home. The very environment where you'll be calming yourself throughout pregnancy, not a clinic room you'll never see again. The sessions are fully live and interactive: we practise together, talk things through in real time, and I answer your questions as they come up. It's a real class, not a video you watch alone.

I'm not very "techy" — is GoTo Meeting complicated?

Not at all. If you can open a link, you can join. I'll send you a simple link before each session, and you can be up and running in a couple of minutes. If you'd like, we can do a quick test call beforehand so you feel completely relaxed about it.

Do both my partner and I need to be there?

Ideally, yes. HypnoBirthing works best when your birth partner learns the techniques alongside you. The workbook even includes affirmations and a guide specifically for him. A prepared partner becomes your calm, capable advocate, which matters enormously when you're birthing in a system (and sometimes a language) that isn't your own. That said, if your partner has to miss part of a session, the materials and audios mean they can easily catch up.

Can I bring my doula?

The course place is for two people, so if your partner is attending with you, that's your two spots. But I'd never want to shut your doula out. If she's interested in HypnoBirthing and wants to know how best to support you with it, she's very welcome to get in touch with me directly.

She's also welcome to join us for the session where we focus on the birth partner's role. That's the most useful session for a doula to sit in on, so she can support you in a way that works hand-in-hand with everything you're learning. And because the course is online, joining that one session is as simple as clicking a link. No travel needed, wherever she's based.

What if I live in a small town or a rural area far from any city?

That's exactly who this course is built for. Wherever you are in Spain — a village in the mountains, an island, a costa town — if you have an internet connection, you have a full antenatal course. No driving, no parking, no "where's the venue?" stress.

How does the goody bag reach me if it's online?

It's posted to your door before the course begins, so your tools are ready and waiting for the first session. Just make sure you give me your address in good time.

My Spanish isn't great. Is that a problem for the course?

The course itself is in English, so you'll understand everything fully. And a big part of what we do is preparing you for the Spanish side of things — the Birth Plan Pack gives you your birth choices numbered in both Spanish and English, and the BRAINS decision-making tool comes with the key questions translated into Spanish, so you have the words that matter when it counts.

What time zone are the sessions in, and what if I can't attend one live?

Sessions run on Spanish time (CET). Because the group is so small — never more than 4 couples — we agree on a weekly time that suits everyone. Life happens, so if you have to miss part of a session, get in touch and we'll make sure you don't fall behind.

When should I start the course in my pregnancy?

Most parents take the course somewhere around the second trimester into the early third trimester, which leaves plenty of time to practise the techniques before your due date. If you're not sure whether the timing works for you, just message me and we'll figure it out together.

What if I have questions after the course finishes?

You're not on your own once the last session ends. You can reach me by WhatsApp and email throughout the course and right up to 2 weeks after your baby arrives — because so many of the real questions come afterwards, when you're back in an appointment or holding your newborn at 3am.

Is this course only for first-time parents?

Not at all. First-timers love it because it demystifies the whole process, but it's just as valuable if you've given birth before — especially if your last birth was in another country and you want to understand how things work here in Spain, or if you'd like a calmer, more prepared experience this time. I´ve even had a mom for her 3rd pregnancy and she absolutely loved it!

I prefer In Person classes, where would that be?

If you're in or near Málaga and would rather learn face-to-face, you can. It's the very same course. The same small group of no more than 4 couples, the same expat-focused preparation for birth in Spain — just shared in the warmth of a room together. Discover the in-person Málaga group course or if you prefer an in-person private course check here.
